Deana Hiroko (Hanafusa) Abe
August 3, 1926 – February 2, 2017

Deana was born on August 3, 1926 in Dinuba, CA and passed away on February 2, 2017 in
Carpinteria, CA. At age 2 she moved to Los Angeles and was raised there until WWII started.
Then her family was relocated to the Heart Mountain, Wyoming internment camp.
Deana
followed in her mother's footsteps and pursued a career in nursing. She graduated from St. Barnabas Nursing School in Minneapolis and received her Public Health Nursing degree from UCLA.
In February 1951 she married Lewis Abe and worked as a Public Health Nurse for the City
of Los Angeles until her first child was born.
She and Lew raised four children, Lisa, Nora, Robert
and Richard. The family moved to Carpinteria in 1964.
She enjoyed pursuing various activities,
planning family gatherings and travels. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Lew, her parents, sister, Kei,
and brothers, George and Ken. She will be greatly missed by her children, Lisa (Bill) Yee, Nora (Wayne) Shen, Robert and Richard, along with grandchildren, Derek, Philip, Jeff and Colin, sisters‐in‐law Kathryn Hanafusa, Esther Abe and Evelyn Abe and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held privately. The family appreciates your kind thoughts and prayers.
