IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daphne Naomi
Shimoda
March 12, 1956 – February 23, 2021
Daphne, 64, Honolulu born and raised, passed away at home in Arcadia, CA February 23 following a stroke. She has gone to be with her parents, many uncles, aunties and cousins.
She leaves her husband, Sato, her sister Sherry in Washington State, and in Hawaii; her brother Jeff, Uncle Kazu, Auntie Yuri, and many Cousins and Friends.
After graduating UH, she went to teach english conversation in Japan, where she met Sato, who also went to teach. The start of a fairy tale life, for Sato, at least.
Getting married and moving to the LA area, she lucked out in finding an Administrative Assistant position for a world renowned HHMI researcher at USC, and then two other prominent HHMI researchers at Caltech.
She enjoyed all her hobbies with a passion. Stained glass, veggie gardening, traveling back to Hawaii and Japan, Japanese history, watching sumo, and her latest obsession, naming hummingbirds. She was most passionate about baking and cooking.
All her friends loved her professional quality desserts and always said she should open a bakery, but her reply would be, "Then it wouldn't be fun." She loved baking just for friends.
To all who knew her, please let everything Beautiful and Good in this world remind you of Daphne.
She is and always will be loved and missed.
