Mildred Chiyoko Morimoto, a 92 year old Gardena, California-born Nisei resident of Redondo Beach, former internee of Rohwer Relocation Camp during WW2 passed away on February 6, 2018. Beloved mother of Dawn (Alan) Kato; grandmother of Lela, Erica, Justin, Janyce and Craig; great-grandmother of Autumn; great-great grandmother of Isabella, Emi and Kyleigh; sister of Haruko. Mildred was formerly the proprietor of Pier Avenue Market in Redondo Beach and later worked at Bullocks Manhattan Beach and Host International Los Angeles Airport. She walked daily and won the most miles walked in the groups several times. Mildred was also an active member of the Gardena Pioneer Project.
Mildred was a loving mother and always a kind and creative person who cared deeply for her family and friends. She took loving care of her husband Nobuo, insisting that she care for him at home until he passed away twenty years ago. She enjoyed her daily outings in her white Volkswagen bug to her various activities and her weekly trips to Costco where she purchased flowers every Friday for her husband's grave.
