IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Mamoru
Hirano
September 17, 1937 – January 4, 2025
Beloved husband, father and grandfather. Born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Left the islands after high school to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Victorville at that time and often travelled to the L.A. area when on leave. There, he began dating his future wife, June. The two were married on June 9th, 1962. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a manufacturing supervisor at American Electronics. The couple initially settled in the Queen Ann neighborhood of L.A., living among several friends and family members. Within a short time, they welcomed their first son, Russell, followed by second son Lance a few years later. The family moved to Brea in 1966 and then Encinitas in 1973 as Mamo followed more lucrative job opportunities. Along with 3 other business partners, he helped found California Power Systems in 1977. The venture mandated one final move for the family to Gardena at that time. He served as Vice President from the inception of CPS through his retirement in 1998. Following his working years, he and June lived a quiet life in Gardena, often helping June as they watched over their grandchildren during the late 90's and early 2000's. He otherwise cherished his time with his expanded family, as he would "talk story" about the good old days in Hawaii or L.A. while enjoying several "buddies" among bites of poke or sashimi. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit as well as his overall mechanical know-how that enabled him to do virtually all his home maintenance and fix damn near everything!
Mamo is survived by his wife June, sons Russell (Donna) and Lance (Lisa) as well as grandchildren Ryan, Jilly, and Ally. A celebration of life will be held privately.
