Barbara Miye Akune, 92-year-old, California born resident of Claremont, passed away on October 19, 2016.  Barbara was a stenographer for 8 years at U.S. Steel and a homemaker for most of her life and was a lover of animals.  After departing Heart Mountain Interment Camp after the war, she moved to Chicago where she met her husband, Harry Akune.  They eventually settled down in Gardena, however, after Harry's passing she moved to Claremont to live with her daughter.  Barbara was strong in her quietness, never proud and was always grateful and had a full love of life.

Predeceased by her husband, Harry; she is survived by her daughters, Patricia and Susan; grandchildren, Jason, Tommy, Michael, Zachary and Katie; she is also survived by other relatives.

No services were held per her request, however, she was laid to rest with her husband Harry at Riverside National Cemetery.
