Arthur Saburo Morey, 93, passed away Nov. 6, 2014.
Arthur is the beloved husband of the late Kay; loving father of Jeffrey Morey, Carol (James) Viventi, and Susanne (Gordon) Melms; beloved grandfather of Jane Viventi, Katie Viventi, and Tina (John) Archambault; predeceased by siblings George Morey, Roy Morey, Shizue Yoshina, Kiyo Kaneko, and Rose Miyoko Ono.
Art was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He worked from the age of 14 at the family owned store, Asia Company, and became a structural engineer until retirement at 78. He attended UCLA, Washington University in St. Louis and UC Berkeley (BS in Mechanical Engineering). Art and Kay (married 67 years) met at Santa Anita assembly center and during WWII he was interned at Amache camp in Grenada, CO. They lived and raised their family in Detroit and Farmington. He was an avid collector of Lionel model trains, loved big band music, and took pictures of steam engines and WWII fighter planes. Known for his intelligence, detailed memory and straight talk, he was the last of six extraordinary offspring of Bungoro and Fujino Morey.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 10 a.m. at Centenary Methodist Church, 300 S. Central Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90013. Internment will follow at 2 p.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601.
