MATERNA, Tony (Anthony Thomas), Ph.D.
May 5, 1925 - Sept. 10, 2012
Beloved son of Anton & Emily Materna, Melnik, Czech Republic,
passed away quietly from heart failure, surrounded by his family, age 87.
He is survived by his loving wife, Weili Materna, two devoted sons,
Anthony Charles and Thomas Edward, and granddaughter Monica Renee Materna.
He escaped over the Iron Curtain in a small plane after WWII,
arriving 1st in Germany, then Australia, where he married his 1st
wife, Anne Hamilton Gilfedder, had 2 sons, and moved to the U.S.
after being accepted at M.I.T. He was an L.A. resident since 1959,
where he started and ran many companies, and co-founded the
Caltech-MIT Enterprise Forum.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, 2:00pm, September 22, 2012, at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 300 S. Central Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90013.
