MRS. AMY EMIKO IWANABE, 89 year old Los Angeles, California-born Nisei resident of Monterey Park passed away on April 11, 2010. Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 24, 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery, 204 N. Evergreen Ave., Los Angeles.
Raised in Boyle Heights, LA, Amy moved to Chicago after wartime internment. She pursued her dancing career at the China Doll Club in New York. Amy met and married Kunio, returning to Los Angeles in 1948. She continued her career in dance as well as in the movie industry. Amy was known for her role in the American version of Godzilla as well as the voice of Tokyo Rose in World War II movies. She worked for GE and later, Dupont where she retired. Passionate about dancing, fashion, and Vegas trips, Amy lived life to the fullest. Outspoken, humorous, and generous, Amy will be missed by her devoted family and many friends who knew, "She always did it her way."
Amy was a loving mother to Lynn (deceased), Ted Jr. and wife Bev, grandmother to Keith and Kelly, and great-grandmother to Nevaeh.
