Aiko Tsuboi was born in Hiroshima, Japan on June 30, 1927. She immigrated to Los Angeles in 1958, with her husband Joe Tadamichi Tsuboi and three-year old son Johnny. Aiko and Joe gave birth to their second son, Kenny, in 1960.
Aiko and Joe raised a family together until Joe suddenly passed in 1973. As a single parent, Aiko worked long hours at a market to support her two young boys and to create a loving home.
Upon retirement in 1992, Aiko was able to spend more time doting on her grandchildren, Joseph (age 27) and Allison (age 25), and on her hobbies. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, Shigin, Sumi-e, Shuji, and playing cards with her neighbors.
Aiko passed peacefully on April 2, 2023 in the home where she lived since 1963.
Aiko is survived by her sons Johnny and Kenny (Mary) and grandchildren Joseph and Allison.
A funeral for Aiko was held on April 22 at Inglewood Park Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Koho Takata from West Los Angeles Buddhist Temple.
